Car Boot Sale...without the Car Boot

What a satisfying day! I spent this afternoon hawking household items at a car boot sale sponsored by the Spring Chicks, a local Womens' Institute group. I've been rummaging around the house for days looking for unneeded bits and bobs and am pleased to say that not only have I cleaned the house but I've made some cash 'to boot'. Sorry, I can never resist a pun ;)

I'm still amazed at how much stuff we still have in our house though, even after several clean outs. But I'm even more amazed that there are so many people out there wanting to buy it. In fact, the event was supposed to begin at noon but there was already a queue at the entrance by 11.30! In the end I sold a couple of boxes of items that included a beat up carpet for £3, two mirrors for £1 a piece and a score of DVDs at £3 a pop. All those little sells did add up and even after paying for my table fee and buying a pair of sneakers (brand new!) I still took home £50. I say that's cause for celebration - or at least a good bit of Sunday relaxation.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

  1. Cause for celebration indeed. I haven't checked out the local carboots yet, but nothing I like more than a rummage about on a Sunday!

    1. I agree...car boots appeal to my 'hunting and gathering' spirit :)

  2. It is a good job it was indoors and not a car boot if you had the same sort of rain that we've had today - well done with your sales

    1. It's been sunny for us in the last couple of days but I was sweating it since it rained on Saturday. I didn't know the car-boot was indoors until I arrived and it really turned out to be a good location for it.

  3. Wow you really made out, we have yard sales here but it is still too cold for them to start. Most of my stuff seems to be worn out by the time I go to sell it so I mostly go to buy.

    1. It'll be warmer for you soon and maybe you too can have a good rifle around at some local sales :)

Most of our recent purchases are things we'll be keeping for ages but we have quite a bit of stuff left over from our 'former lives' to sell on...

  5. Well done, that's a great amount for an afternoon, and you wouldn't have got much done at the allotment if you had the weather we had here, can you believe we got snow, though it didn't settle.

    1. My goodness...snow? It's bright and sunny out today and I'm just about to head out to run some errands. It's amazing how different the weather can be in different parts of Britain.

  6. Well done Tanya. They always say one person's rubbish is another's treasure but I agree it is rather satisfying to make that much from things you no longer want.

    1. And it's nice to know that someone else can find a use for things that would have otherwise been stashed in a cupboard...

  7. Isn't it satisfying when someone pays you for your old 'junk'? :)
I've been decluttering on a small scale too but I'm relying on eBay.
I should be decluttering on a large scale.....
    Well Done!

    1. I'd be doing a lot more Ebaying myself but it's fairly expensive to post medium to large things off-island. That's probably why you can get furniture at our local auctions for so cheap...I've seen fashionably distressed sideboards and trunks going for a fiver.
