One of those Weeks...

Ever had one of those weeks that you just couldn't pull away from paperwork and drudgery? That pretty much sums up this last one for me... The good news is that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I'm so happy that I'll be able to get away from my computer this weekend and finally be able to spend some time outside. We've got a few things planned but the highlight will be the chance of buying a couple of bee hives from a retiring beekeeper tomorrow. It's a shame when someone has to give up one of their passions, but at the same time I look forward to walking into some good quality equipment at hopefully bargain prices.

The other exciting bit of news this week is another one of my 'finds' - a very solid wood desk that I found down at the amenity site last weekend. We've been looking for a garage work bench for awhile now but the shops I've approached have given me prices ranging from £60 to over £100 for their least expensive options. Seeing as we were hoping to pay less than £50, this desk is not only well under our budget (being free!) but sturdy enough to provide years of use. Maybe I'll have my chicken coop finished by spring after all :)

  4. I saw bee hives piled up in a field the other day, I think the colonies have been ravaged by pests and genetically engineered crops which kill all insects and provide great profits. Anyway, I rarely see a honey bee anymore but I can testify that hornets and wasps are doing nicely. I am glad to hear that someone still has bees.

  6. Sue - I was thinking the same thing about those drawers! Half of them for the hubby's tools and half for ME ;)

Jo - Fingers crossed on the weather front...it's been dark and dreary for days now so hope it brightens up a bit. Enjoy your weekend too :)

  7. Mr. H - Me too! It's difficult to find inexpensive beekeeping equipment since we can't import any used pieces. The Isle of Man is a Varroa-free zone and we want to keep it that way! Unfortunately that means scrounging off your fellow beekeepers when they have a yard sale.

  8. Sunnybrook - It's terrible to hear what's happening in the states with GMO crops, pesticides, varroa and all the other diseases that affect honey bees. I'm so grateful that we are both GMO and Varroa-free on the island and that our bee population is healthy!

  9. Elaine - Absolutely! Just think of all the uses of beeswax and honey: furniture polish, beauty products and soap, candles, crayons, cakes and most of all free natural sugar for my Chai teas.

  10. Tanya - I have to say that at first glance I thought that was a photograph of your desk after your work for the week!

Good luck with the bees - my friend used to keep them until she was stung and went into anaphyllactic shock and had to get rid of them - honey honey was delicious.

  11. Pat - I WISH that my desk were that clean! Mine has mountains of papers, bowls of sourdough and kefir and all kinds of art materials over it right now. Haha!
